Hal Calbom '71 will present an up-to-the-minute report from the world of clean technology, energy efficiency, climate change politics, and the "smart house" next door. Clean technology is “green” behavior writ large: engineering, product development, politics and policy. It’s focused both on saving the planet and driving what a prominent venture capitalist calls the “greatest economic opportunity of the 21st century.”
Hal weaves personal reportage, contemporary events, and multiple media video clips from his own filmmaking into a presentation covering:
1. Renewables: Solar, wind, and geothermal technologies
2. Transportation: Electric vehicles, battery storage systems, new fuels
3. Power: "Smart Grid" applications
4. Savings: Energy efficiency and energy conservation
5. Employment: Green Job creation and potential
6. Policy: Regulatory and economic challenges
In addition, we will get an update on the Copenhagen UN Climate Change Conference.
Hal Calbom is a graduate of Harvard College '71. He majored in Government and was a National Merit Scholar and winner of the Frank Knox Fellowship. He holds an M.A. in English from the University of Exeter, England.
Hal is writer/producer of the film “Evergreen: The Washington Clean Tech Story.”
